Gastric cancer in Wales.

چکیده
In 1966 a study was reported (Ashley and Davies, 1966a) which showed an association between mortality from gastric cancer and 'Welshness', which was defined as membership of the genetic pool of Welsh people and was determined by the two parameters of Welsh speaking and the possession of a Welsh surname. The present study is an extension of the previous one and includes an attempt to assess the relative risk of death from this neoplasm in the Welsh and non-Welsh people of Wales respectively. The standardized mortality ratios (SMR) for gastric cancer were calculated for males and females for the several counties and county boroughs of Wales for the six-year period 1958 to 1963 inclusive

Oesophageal cancer in Wales.
Millar (1961), in his study of gastro-intestinal cancer in Montgomeryshire, noted an increased frequency of oesophageal and gastric cancer but not of colonic and rectal cancer in North Wales. The present study is an extension of one previously reported which connected the high frequency of gastric cancer in Wales (Ashley and Davies, 1966a) with the genetic constitution of the Welsh people. It d...

The most recent paper about gastric cancer in south Wales is that by Craven et al who covered the extensive publications on the subject, noting, for example, the pronounced social class relation and the high SMRs in certain occupational groups such as miners.1 They also discuss the paper by Stukonis and Doll, which suggests that hard work and a healthy appetite are more probable aetiological fa...
متن کاملAssociation of rs9122 Polymorphism in the MCC Gene with Increasing the Risk of Gastric Cancer
Abstract Background and Aim: Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignancies in the world. Genetic background is known to be one of the risk factors for gastric cancer. One of the genes that have been shown to be involved in various cancers, including gastric cancer, is the MCC gene. There are many SNPs in the MCC gene in the encoding and regulatory regions, one of which is rs9122, which ...

AIM To audit the information content of pathology reports of oesophageal and gastric cancer resection specimens in Wales. METHODS All such reports from the 16 NHS histopathology laboratories in Wales in a one year period were evaluated for their information content. Two standards were used: (1) best practice reporting, and (2) a minimum dataset required for informed patient management that in...
متن کاملMiR-493 suppresses the proliferation and invasion of gastric cancer cells by targeting RhoC
Objective(s):MiRNAs have been proposed to be key regulators of tumorigenesis, progression and metastasis. However, their effect and prognostic value in gastric cancer is still poorly known. Materials and Methods: Gastric cancer cell lines were cultured. Tissue samples obtained from 36 gastric cancer patients were used for quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis. The tissue microarrays (T...
